Artist Talk: Brigitte Hart

July 25, 2026, 19h
!t – a space for it

Australian sound artist Brigitte Hart is in Timișoara between 14 and 28 July, as part of a new international co-production developed by SIMULTAN together with IKLECTIK in London.

Based in London, Hart works across performance, installation, field recording, voice, found objects and archival materials. Her practice explores the relationships between histories and ecologies, with a particular interest in urban rivers and waterways, their shifting environments, and the ways these familiar spaces can be reimagined through sound.

During her residency in Timișoara, Hart will begin from the research directions Rivers, Relics, Radiation, tracing possible connections between water, light, radio relics and technological traces in and around the city. The research will include sound recordings and field explorations, with attention to the materials, objects and infrastructures that may become starting points for a new sonic work. At this stage of the residency, Hart will collaborate with Dorian Bolca, a local artist whose practice is situated at the intersection of lighting design for the performing arts, light art and visual experimentation.

On 25 July, Hart will give a public presentation at !t — a space for it, sharing her artistic practice and the research currently unfolding in Timișoara. The presentation will look at how a sound-based research process takes shape, what can become material for listening, and how the histories of places can be brought into relation with their changing environments.

The research developed in Timișoara will continue towards presentations in 2027 at SIMULTAN Festival and IKLECTIK in London.

IKLECTIK is a London-based organisation dedicated to experimental sound practices, interdisciplinary performance and artistic work that does not fit neatly into fixed categories. Founded in 2014, IKLECTIK has become a meeting point for artists, researchers and audiences, supporting projects where sound becomes space, performance expands into its surroundings, and listening is approached as a physical, critical and collective experience.

The presentation is part of the SIMULTAN 2026–2027 co-production programme, developed together with local and international organisations working across media art, sound and technology.

Between May and November, artists with different practices are working in Timișoara through a series of residencies, developing projects that start from local contexts or previous research. Each collaboration opens a distinct working process, with results to be presented at SIMULTAN Festival 2027 before travelling through the partners’ network.

SIMULTAN Festival 21 — Against Resolution: Unfinished Thinking Undisciplined Art will take place in Timișoara from 24 to 27 September 2026, with extended collateral programmes until 4 October, at MX – Muzeul Corneliu Mikloși.

SIMULTAN 2026–2027 is funded by the Municipality of Timișoara through Centrul de Proiecte.
