Post-Muzica is a program dedicated to sound and artists active in the experimental area of contemporary music, curated by Micleuşanu M. and produced by Fundația 9.
The Post-Muzica program at Simultan Festival will include six video works signed by artists Constantin Basica, Ioana Vreme-Moser, Silent Strike (Ioan Titu), Lala Misosniky, Cosmin Nicolae and Călin Torsan / Ana Pătrașcu.
“I started on the winding streets with the recorder in my pocket and headphones in my ears. I got lost with the map in my hand. I listened carefully to the sound of the city, with jolts, shouts, echoes, birds, running water, cars and construction sites. Affection-carrying sound, layers of overlapping spaces, have the power to instantly plunge you into somewhere. Where? Of reality? Yours? Undefined, maybe in the middle or on the edge.”
“I’m most attracted to completely free improvisation. It always arouses strong and strange tensions, both in the souls of those who perform it, and in the minds of those who receive it as spectators. It’s a wonderful but risky act, connecting today’s music with what it has been for much of human history. Otherwise, I seek to become the best instrumentalist possible, and for this I strive in the solitude of daily practice.” (Călin Torsan)
“I’m fascinated by the intersections between the arts. Of the forms of expression & interdisciplinary multimedia performance. I’m captivated by their unlimited potential of investigation, the hybrid spaces, and the fact that each discipline inherits a set of practices, conventions, traditions. This allows elements to be transposed from one category to another, which can generate interesting and valuable artifacts. Based on the fusion of creative processes I can establish my own rules of composition, which allows me to escape from any cataloging criteria.” (Constantin Basica)
“What remains when we are gone? Enchanted Grove projects into the future to find a landscape where natural organisms have been replaced by electronic remains. Through a series of undulating movements, the sound or ‘post music’ is born here, in the guts of a disused car. Between components like minerals, pieces of ceramic and printed silica segments, electrons flow through the patterns, meet, accumulate and eventually end up creating noise.” (Ioana Vreme-Moser)
“For me, anything contains sound, even if it’s not organized (by definition, harmonic, rhythmic) is still a kind of music. I live with it, I experiment daily, I work with noises… speaking of antithesis, modular synthesis fascinates me, there’s a paradox at play: you can program to make random sounds. Or vice versa, you can experiment, improvise and finally get “organized sounds”. Anyway, everything is cyclical, chaos-order-chaos, dynamics valid for everything that surrounds us, inner life, outer life and the intersection between them.” (Ioan Titu / Silent Strike)
“Probably, coming from the periphery, I migrate to secondary spaces. I am drawn to phenomena and developments at the edges, as opposed to events at the center. I am constantly looking for a medium of expression that allows me to reflect, to convey the feeling of a simulacrum of states, nuances, memory. I intuitively associate sounds with images, I like the term capture, it really seems like you capture pieces of space and time that you “seize” in a certain format… a “prison” of content, even if the interpretation is free.” (Cosmin Nicolae)
