Her recent projects focus on remote sensing imagery and photography as tools for data extraction, questioning the objectivity of such visual material and the dispersed viewpoint that digital technologies make possible. Through the use of cinematographic and theatrical elements, she explores different approaches to storytelling within exhibition spaces.

During her residency in Timișoara, Reichmann is researching the Astronomical Observatory’s involvement in the INTEROBS programme and the activity of satellite observation station no. 1133. She is especially interested in the material and performative aspects of these observation systems: modified theodolites, chronographs, timing devices, recording mechanisms, observation tapes, and the manual processes used to track artificial satellites before digital automation.

This research connects to a broader interest in the ways humans have tried to map and visualise inaccessible spaces – from astronomical photography to satellite imagery and technical archives. The artist talk will introduce Reichmann’s practice and the questions guiding her work in Timișoara: the relationship between scientific instruments, human labour, and systems of knowledge production, as well as the possibility of turning these materials into a fictional sonic narrative, close to the format of a radio piece.

The event is part of the SIMULTAN 2026-2027 co-production programme, which brings artists to Timișoara through collaborations with local and international organisations working across media art, sound, technology, and artistic research. Between May and November, these residencies and production processes will open different lines of inquiry, presented publicly during the festival and later through the network of international partners.

Founded in 2002 by Marcela Okretič and Janez Fakin Janša, Aksioma – Institute for Contemporary Art, Ljubljana is a private, non-profit cultural organisation that produces, presents and disseminates art projects as well as exhibition, discursive and educational programmes with the aim of critically understanding the structures of contemporary society and the role that new technologies play in shaping the way we perceive it.

SIMULTAN Festival XXI — Against Resolution: Unfinished Thinking Undisciplined Art will take place in Timișoara between September 24 – 27, 2026, with an extended programme running until October 4, at MX – Muzeul Corneliu Mikloși.

SIMULTAN 2026–2027 is funded by the Municipality of Timișoara through the Center for Projects.

Partners: obsolete.studio (FR/RO), Werktank (BE), IKLECTIK (UK), Aksioma – Institute for Contemporary Art Ljubljana (SI), Ars Electronica (AT), Plan Zero, SEMISILENT, Fundația DALA, Colonia Pictorilor, The Secret Garden, Cărturești Bookstore, Ecluze pe Bega, Rezidența9

Media partners: Revista Arta, Teletext Platforma, Scena9, RFI România, Revista Sunete, Zile și Nopți, Arhiva de Sunet, Best of Timișoara, RRC, STPT

On Saturday, June 6, from 5pm, we invite you to meet artist Lara Reichmann, who is in Timișoara as part of the SIMULTAN x Aksioma collaboration.
