At a time when technology promises maximum resolution – clearer images, purer sounds, more efficient processes – Against Resolution proposes friction, imperfection, and unfinished thinking as legitimate critical practices. Bringing together theorists and practitioners, this year’s edition opens up a space between touch and algorithm, between gesture and instrument.
SIMULTAN XXI – a workshop for an uncertain future.

SIMULTAN began in 2005 out of a curiosity about what was new and a desire to explore uncharted territory, where video art and sound experimentation were finding their place in an emerging local scene. Since then, the festival has operated on the conviction that making art and creating a context for art are one and the same act, that the city can be raw material, not merely a backdrop, that hybridity is not an aesthetic but rather a way of thinking, and that rigor and accessibility are not mutually exclusive. The festival has evolved and transformed alongside the contexts, spaces, and situations that shaped it.

Twenty editions later, technology is no longer a novelty; it is an ambient medium. The question is no longer just how you use it, but how you think with it – how you remain responsive, honest, and authentic when the tools have multiplied and the answers come before the questions.

Vinyl- terror & horror – Q&A at SIMULTAN 2019 – Photo Petru Cojocaru

2026 is a year of building, connection, and dialogue.
Throughout the year, SIMULTAN is developing a series of artistic co-productions in collaboration with local and European organizations that employ diverse yet similar approaches – new works that will tour the network of international partners in the coming years.
In parallel, a series of workshops and mentoring sessions will take place for young artists and students from the local scene, exploring digital tools as a means of expression in interactive audiovisual productions and performance.
