The official opening takes place on Saturday, May 27th, 3:00 PM, at the former&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=ea5f27d2dc&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Constructorul building<\/a>, the space that hosts some of the sound installations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 2023 program is divided into four themes that meet and intertwine like the tributaries of a river, creating opportunities for dialogue with the invited artists through ideas flowing and fluid like water, floating like driftwood or steady as stones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u203a&nbsp;<strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=407e7398bb&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\">Begin exploring the 2023 selection of projects on our website<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u203a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/1326286681469724\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/1326286681469724\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Join the event<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.simultan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/beavers-their-vocalizations-abby-lee-tee-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2362\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Photo: Abby Lee Tee &#8211;&nbsp;<em>Beavers and other wetland dwellers<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Rivers and other waters<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the central theme, which hosts the main innovation of this edition, namely the auditions of radio art works that take place in a pool on the bank of the Bega Canal:&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=2241296a3c&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\">Where the Rivers Meet<\/a>&nbsp;by Antoine Richard tells the story of two rivers merging and&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=bf4b8ba4f3&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\">Sails<\/a>&nbsp;by Ilinca Stihi tells the history of the world through an aquatic journey (a binaural work, listening with wireless headphones).&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=95fdf6a9a3&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\">A cruise on the Pelican&nbsp;<\/a>boat to the S\u00e2nmihaiu Rom\u00e2n lock brings us together, in a kind of guided tour, with Spoken Words by Alex Higyed (Comuna 30) and the readers of aquatic territories from Ecluze pe Bega &#8211; arh. Bogdan Demetrescu &amp; Alexandrina Ciortuz. On the return journey,&nbsp;the boat vibrates with the force of the engines from the Water Plant, through&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=3e07010480&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\">an immersive sound composition<\/a>&nbsp;that will transport you to the heart of Europe&#8217;s oldest hydropower plant, performed by Jacob Kirkegaard and created especially for this occasion.<br>The Danube is also part of the program with 5 compositions with sounds recorded at Port Cetate within&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=7dc5f3add9&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\">the Sonic Future Residencies<\/a>&nbsp;and with the beaver families and other&nbsp;wetland dwellers from Linz brought&nbsp;in&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=17e07565cb&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\">a performance<\/a>&nbsp;by Abby Lee Tee, who also presents the film&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=bd8fa7312f&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\">Syntopia:Bega<\/a>&nbsp;together with the artist Andreea S\u0103s\u0103ran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.simultan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Soundwalk-with-Maria-Balabas\u0326.-Photo_-Andreea-Sa\u0306sa\u0306ran1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2364\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Photo: Maria Balabas &#8211; Soundwalks<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Cities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maria Balaba\u0219&#8217;s&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=a24bc46a3a&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\">soundwalks<\/a>, inspired by Elena Biserna&#8217;s books, open this theme. Along with Caroline Claus, who talks about sound and urbanism in the contemporary city, Elena Biserna presents the soundwalk as a tool for working with space and territory, in&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=e618e79fd8&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\">a conference<\/a>&nbsp;hosted by the Faculty of Architecture and the Order of Architects. A field recording initiation&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=10cee653d6&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\">workshop<\/a>&nbsp;is led by Stephane Marin, visual artist Ana Kun installs&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=d02212da60&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\">a series of blank flags<\/a>&nbsp;with cutout texts allowing the free flowing of the air to create a soothing sound, and Makunouchi Bento will perform&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=16bae5b1fd&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\">a piece<\/a>&nbsp;that explores the aural journey of a virtual cricket on a bottle, floating on the river Bega that crosses the city of Timi\u0219oara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.simultan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Invisible-Landscapes_1-1024x575.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2365\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Photo: Ivo Byst\u0159i\u010dan &#8211;&nbsp;<em>Invisible Landscapes<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Further away<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anna Kravets invites us to experiment the cohabitation&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=15201690fc&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\">through words<\/a>&nbsp;spoken or whispered in a bunker, a project started during the first bombings in Kiev. First far, then close,&nbsp;<em>Further away<\/em>&nbsp;theme also features&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=d62b140703&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\">a concert<\/a>&nbsp;by Mirian Kolev with recordings from abandoned Bulgarian villages, and&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=c880b59909&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\">an audition<\/a>&nbsp;of the radio art piece &#8220;Tres Fronteras&#8221; by Stephane Marin, the poetic transcription of a journey in the Amazon. The film&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=22bae532c8&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\">Invisible Landscapes<\/a>&nbsp;by Ivo Byst\u0159i\u010dan reveals the richness of soundscapes and the importance of their preservation, while the series of mini-films&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=630425f9fa&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\">Son Seul\/Wildtracks<\/a>&nbsp;by Felix Blume takes us around the world with humor, a microphone, and 34 sonic jewels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.simultan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/mineral-amnesia-2-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2379\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Photo: Ioana Vreme Moser &#8211;&nbsp;<em>Mineral Amnesia<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Resonances and Objects<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This theme is dedicated to sound installations selected and proposed by curator Carsten Seiffarth in two distinct spaces. Gallery 5 in the center of Timisoara hosts&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=9a9c600766&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SPIN<\/a>&nbsp;the Tourist Information Center, a space created by Ionu and Tovarasu D., which questions the impact of tourism on contemporary societies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Constructorul building on the banks of the Bega Canal will be sonically populated by&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=486bd8d9c6&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\">coin-cidence<\/a>&nbsp;by Nika Schmitt, a kinetic sculpture that seeks its way on uneven surfaces, and by&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=436a917ae8&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\">Harmonic intervention<\/a>&nbsp;by Raul Keller, which transforms the space into a resonant chamber for a better understanding of specific acoustics. The sound installation&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/simultan.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6407e151feac29d4009f9efa8&amp;id=9f4a3c3a2e&amp;e=bbc1c7ebff\" target=\"_blank\">Mineral Amnesia<\/a>&nbsp;by Ioana Vreme Moser explores the evolution and degradation of the first programmable memory of the digital Middle Ages and its shadows through the perspective of an outdated device, that ended up discarded to form toxic wastelands over the geological layer of the earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From soundwalks and events that highlight the acoustic properties of different spaces along the river, to concerts, films, and listening devices in pools and abandoned buildings on the banks of the Bega Canal, SONIC NARRATIVES sounds an alarm, demonstrates a potential, and invites to creativity in how we manage our relationship with Bega today and, especially, in the ways we can affirm its presence in the urban space of the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Here&#8217;s a little teaser<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"SONC NARRATIVES 2023 -teaser\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TJCnxgGvhgg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
