S8 Improv Collective
[hu]
According to their own definition, S8 Improv Csoport (where
Csoport means Collective is Hungarian) plays "free music".
They are formed in the fall of 2006 from members of post rock
and improvisational groups: László Juhász
(1980) - tabletop violin, selected objects, laptop electronics;
Gábor Kiss (1976) - guitar, selected objects; Márk
Kiss (1977) - guitar, selected objects; Szilárd Szokol
(1973) - percussion, selected objects; Árpád
Tóth (1979) - bass, violin, various electronics.
Their improvisative music is based on the playful exploration
of the sounds and noises of their instruments and household
objects, and rarely based any pre-given points of references,
but sometimes they use found sounds. The music is completed
with screening by Szilárd Szokol of amateur and professional
Super 8 films that defy modern digital technology.
The group is closely connected to the online magazine Improv.hu
that deals with free improv music with singular depth in Hungary.
They are one of the winners of Ultrasound Foundation's "What
is Music? 2007" competition with their piece entitled
Vurt.
