An interdisciplinary rhizomatic vision for sonic and
digital,
artistic and cultural hybridism
For the festival in Timisoara, Philippe Franck will present
his interdisciplinary and nomadic artistic, cultural and curatorial
approach more specifically through the City Sonics Festival
(sound art as a new hybrid art in the city) and Les Transnumériques
platform (digital arts emergences and the diversity of electronic
culture/cross media nowadays). Through this rhizomatic philosophical
and transcultural kaleidoscope, he will comment some pieces
and special events produced recently by Transcultures and
dialogue with the audience.
Curator, art critic, sound artist (under the name of Paradise
Now) living between Brussels and Paris, Philippe Franck founded
Transcultures in 1996 in Brussels to promote and develop exchanges
between different contemporary arts and disciplines.
Transcultures has now developed in an interdisciplinary centre
for electronic and sound cultures based in Mons (Belgium).
In this frame work he curates City Sonics, sound art festival
in Mons and other cities and Les Transnumériques (trans
digital arts festival) in Paris, Brussels, Maubeuge and Lille.
He also teaches digital arts at the Visual Art School La Cambre
(Brussels) and is a member of the scientific committee of
the sound art laboratory locus sonus (Arts schools of Nice
and Aix-en-Provence-France).
He has coordinated many CDs (for Sub Rosa and other independent
labels), publications and contributed to various magazines
on interdisciplinary, music, sound and media arts related
topics. He is also part of La Gaité Lyrique curatorial
team, a new center for current music and digital arts which
will open in 2010 in Paris.
