Aide Auditive [fr]
Created in 2006, Aide Auditive, formed by
Matohawk and MysthR, will not stop surprising us. Armed with
their laptops and various kinds of controllers (joystick,
sensitive mat, etc.), these two adept artists of computer
era favor a live performance based on improvisation. They
develop their own programs and use various open source software,
thus exploring new tones and electronic music. In particular,
they have been invited to present their work in Linux Audio
Conference 2008 in Köln. Booming bass, stripping noise,
embellished with a sweet and appeasing sonorous landscape
of incessant down-tempo rhythms this music evolves wherever
their moods carry it. Beyond the created sounds, a true complicity
has been established and feeds their inspiration.
« Recettes Pour Les Sourds », their second album
released with the Zeste netlabel, reflects these uncompromising
improvisations.

Matohawk, as an artist, concerns himself
particularly with the sound medium. After his physics degree,
he continued with his studies about sound and image in the
« Université de Provence ». At the same
time, he got in touch with graphic programming in general,
and more particularly with the software Pure Data. Equipped
with sensors, he collaborated as a sound programmer for audiovisual
installations and dance performances. With Thierry Coduys,
he completed his training at the Kitchen in Paris and worked
on graphic scores with the help of Pure data and IanniX. Since
then, he has focused his sound research on new forms of musical
writing.
To continue his work, he particularly relies on free and open
source software which give him more open advantages. In 2006,
still willing to explore other sound approaches, he directed
himself towards improvisation techniques and created the duo
Aide Auditive with Mysth-R.

Previously a pianist and drummer, Mysth-R
played in several Jazz and Progressive Rock bands, before
becoming interested in electronic music. At the end of the
nineties, he discovered the sound of rhythmic and hypnotic
free parties, that prompted him to put down his drumsticks
to enter a new universe, that of the machines. In fact, he
is fascinated by the possibilities offered by digital technologies
in processing and sound creation. Then his training in computing
and audiovisual, as well as his passion for music and high
technologies, have brought him to study various methods of
composition. For now he concentrates his practice on improvisation,
using free software and developing his own virtual instruments.
The result of his explorations came true in 2006 through the
“Aide Auditive” project.
