The video entitled ERROR 404 is dealing with the issues of real-time transmissions of audio-visual data in contemporary mass-used digital communication systems. Broadcasted signals are traveling through a number of connectors and wireless transmission networks to reach the final destination. Encoded signal packages, distorted by noisy channels, are disturbing television viewer’s perception. Science has developed several applications for the reconstruction of missing or damaged data to decrease the possibilities of transmission errors. Instead of avoiding received failures, the video generates data error as an artistic tool and creates audio-visual poetics related to the field of transmission, failure, correction, storage and more universal questions about technology and communications in contemporary society. Telerecorded nature of errors. Between science and every day life.

MARKO BATISTA [UK] - The Machine Of Memory, 01:22, 2006

Soon after I established the Video Cuts platform in London, I started to work on a three-part project related to the nature of memory in contemporary networked society. Human storage is entirely reconstructed by machines of memory. Mobile phone, display oriented, computer based and LCD projected data storage became an extension of human memory. Travelling between presence and absence. Future and the past. The presented video is the first one of a three-part project inspired by ideas about human memory surrounded by machines for re/storing data. The poetics of the video makes you think how technology is linked to the human storage of the past. Past, that can be easily reconstructed by machines of memory.
