However, this road that leads to change and expand the cultural discourse of the city, means the creation of space communication active “past” and “modern”, “official” and “subcultural”, “meynstrimnoho” and “parallel.” An important aspect in the deployment project is the combination of what happened in the past in the development of new media art with a definition of contemporary cultural context and presentation of media art.

SIMULTAN_‘Transiting Memories’
Video works from the Simultan Festival archive, compiled by Levente Kozma

Memory is the precondition of narrative, and when it is disturbed or it is malfunctioning, narratological coherence and efficiency suffer as well. In fact, narration not only depends on memory. It is inherently constructed by it as well, as seen in the omnipresence of memory-based techniques like retroversion or flashback – in any narrative. By recalling or recognizing previous experiences, ‘Transiting Memories’ is trying to deliberate the relation between time and space, reality and fiction from different perspectives - increasing the imaginary with sarcasm and absurdity. These works are compiling personal and collective histories, returning time and time again to memories of the past, that establish in addition a highly personalised image repertory of our time.
